PROVO (AP) — Skyler Halford scored 28 points Saturday night and BYU handily earned its first West Coast Conference win of the season 87-53 over San Diego.
BYU (9-7, 1-2) shot 53.4 percent from the field (31 of 58) and Tyler Haws scored 17, Eric Mika, 13, and Kyle Collinsworth, 12.

The lead changed hands five times before Halford broke a 17-17 tie with a 3-pointer, sparking a 12-2 BYU run, and BYU led 41-23 at halftime. San Diego shot just 32.1 percent from the field (9 of 28) in the half to BYU's 58.6 percent (17 of 29).
BYU opened the second half with a 10-2 run and rolled, leading by 37 with 6:38 to play.
Johnny Dee entered the game averaging 18.9 points, but the Cougars held him to just eight.
Chris Sarbaugh scored 10, and San Diego shot 34.5 percent from the field on the night (20 of 58).
