SALT LAKE CITY — Trey Burke has had one month of NBA experience and his stellar play in that time has earned him the Western Conference Rookie of the Month award for the month of December.

The rookie from Michigan missed the first 12 games of the season and didn't get his first start until the 15th game when the Jazz were 1-14. Since Burke took over the Jazz have gone 10-10, but most of his damage has been in the last month of the year.

In December Burke has played in all the Jazz games, 16 in total, averaging 32.7 minutes per game through the month. He led all NBA rookies with 5.9 assists per game as well as a rookie-best 91.9 percent free throw shooting. His minutes per game and scoring, 14.8 ppg, are second among rookies.

He had a career-high in scoring against the Orlando Magic where he scored 30 points to go along with 8 assists and 7 rebounds. His 30-8-7 performance was the first of its kind by a rookie since the Los Angeles Clippers' Blake Griffin did it April 13, 2011. In that game he shot 60 percent from the field with 4-8 3-point shooting. He is grabbing 3.1 rebounds per game.

Burke ended the month scoring in double figures in 13 of the 16 games and dished out five of more assists 12 times.
