Malibu, Calif. — Malcom Brooks scored a career-high 24 points and made six of Pepperdine's season-best 13 3-pointers in an 80-74 victory over BYU Monday night.

Amadi Udenyi was 4-of-6 from behind the arc for the Waves, which ended the game shooting 54.2 percent (13-of-24) from 3-point range.

The visiting Cougars made 1-of-11 (9.1 percent) of their 3-point attempts.

BYU had a chance to cut the Pepperdine lead to two with 49 seconds remaining, but Frank Bartley IV missed two free throws and the Waves converted 5-of-6 of their free throws in the final minute to seal the win.

Pepperdine took a 5-4 lead with 17:59 left in the first half and never again trailed. Jeremy Major added 13 points and Stacy Davis had 12 to help the Waves move to 9-5 (2-0).

The Cougars were fueled by Tyler Haws' 20 points on 7-of-18 shooting. Kyle Collinsworth had 11 points, 13 rebounds and seven assists. Skyler Halford came off the bench to score 11 and Eric Mika tallied 10 points and seven rebounds before fouling out.

Mika was whistled for a technical foul after saying something to the referee on his way to the bench.

The Cougars' 560-game streak of making at least one 3-pointer was in jeopardy until Anson Winder sunk a three with BYU down 78-71 and 23 seconds left.

BYU (8-7, 0-2) has now lost four games in a row for the first time since Dave Rose took over as head coach in 2005.

The Cougars are back at the Marriott Center in their next game for the first time since Dec. 11 when they beat Prairie View A&M, 100-52.

BYU hosts San Diego, which lost to Loyola Marymount Monday to also drop to 0-2 in conference play, Jan. 4 at 7 p.m. MST. The Toreros are 9-6 overall.
