PHILADELPHIA (AP) - An unlicensed doctor who worked as an assistant at a Philadelphia abortion clinic that authorities dubbed a "house of horrors" has been sentenced to six to 12 years in prison.
The Philadelphia Inquirer ( http://bit.ly/1aVvrnH) said that before sentencing Wednesday, 51-year-old Steven Massof, of Pittsburgh, called his involvement with Dr. Kermit Gosnell a "horrific part of my life that will always be there."
Massof pleaded guilty to two counts of third-degree murder and avoided a possible death sentence in exchange for testifying against his former employer. Gosnell was convicted of three counts of first-degree murder and sentenced to three consecutive life sentences.
Massof testified he routinely saw babies born alive and then killed with scissors at Gosnell's inner-city clinic, which catered to minorities, the poor and women with late-term pregnancies.
