Brazil plane maker sells jets to American Airlines

SAO PAULO (AP) - Brazilian plane maker Embraer says American Airlines has placed a firm order for 60 E-175 passenger jets for an estimated $2.5 billion.

Embraer says in a Thursday statement that the contract signed by American Airlines includes options for an additional 90 aircraft

Deliveries of the 76-seat regional jets are expected to begin in during the first quarter of 2015.

Embraer is the world's third-largest commercial aircraft manufacturer behind Boeing and Airbus, and it's the global leader in regional jets.
