SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Tyler Haws scored 21 points and Matt Carlino added 18 points to lead Brigham Young to an 85-74 win Saturday over in state rival and previously unbeaten Utah State.

Erica Mika also scored 15 points and grabbed nine rebounds for the Cougars. Frank Barley IV added 14 points off the bench, 11 of which came in the second half after BYU (6-2) trailed 44-39 at the half. Kyle Collinsworth had a team-high 12 rebounds and eight assists.

The Aggies (5-1) were led by Spencer Butterfield with 20 points and seven rebounds. Kyle Davis added 16 points and nine boards while Jarred Shaw chipped in 12 points and a game-high 13 rebounds for Utah State.

The neutral-site game, played at EnergySolutions Arena in Salt Lake City, was tied eight times before BYU broke open the game late with a 16-5 run.

The Cougars' second-half run was led by guards Carlino and Bartley attacking the rim. After Utah State's Jalen Moore hit a 3-pointer from the left corner to knot the game 58-58, Bartley scored seven points in a five-minute span to push BYU in front for good.

Utah State shot 60 percent from the floor in the first half but made only 12 of 34 in the second. The Aggies also turned the ball over 16 times to only seven for BYU. The Cougars scored 19 points off of those turnovers. BYU also outscored Utah State 19-4 from the free throw line.

The Cougars, capitalizing on four early turnovers by Utah State and 11 first-half points by Haws, led 29-22 after the game's first 10 minutes. The Aggies took their first lead at 40-37 on a 3 pointer by Preston Medlin with 3:30 left in the half. They stretched the lead to five on a hook in the paint by Shaw.

Utah State hit 5 of 7 shots over the final four minutes of the first half while BYU finished the half hitting only 3 of 12. Butterfield and Davis made a combined 10 of 11 shots in the opening half for a combined 22 points. The Aggies assisted 15 of their 19 first-half baskets.

The Cougars, behind an alley-oop dunk and layup by Mika, scored the first five points of the second half to regain the lead at 45-44. A hook by Shaw and 3-pointer by Butterfield put the Aggies back on top. A dunk by Shaw moments later gave the Aggies, despite opening the second half shooting 5 of 16, their biggest lead at 53-47.

BYU then scored 11 straight points behind four straight fast-break baskets, two by Carlino and a coast-to-coast bucket by Bartley. The Aggies knotted the game for the final time at 55-55 with Moore's 3-pointer from the left corner. Three straight points by Skyler Halford off the bench put BYU ahead for good.
