NEW DELHI (AP) - Police say a speeding truck has overturned on a potholed road, killing at least 22 people in western India.

Police inspector Ashok Malage said 32 others were injured in the pre-dawn accident Saturday near the city of Belgaum in Karnataka state.

The victims were farm workers traveling to help harvest sugar cane.

He says 10 children and three women were among the dead.

Malage says the truck was speeding on a badly potholed stretch of the highway when it overturned.

India has the world's deadliest roads, with more than 110,000 people killed annually. Most crashes are blamed on reckless driving, poorly maintained roads and aging vehicles.
