INGLEWOOD, Calif., May 22, 2006 (UPI via COMTEX) -- Madonna kicked off her "Confessions" tour in California 45 minutes late, but the delay did not damper the enthusiasm of the sold-out Forum crowd.

The 8 p.m. start of the Sunday night concert was delayed by "opening night glitches and mind-boggling traffic snarls," the Los Angeles Daily News reported Monday.

Among the celebrities spotted in the crowd were Rosie O'Donnell, Salma Hayek and Nicole Richie scattered throughout the arena.

The 47-year-old Michigan native started the show by being lowered from the ceiling inside a giant disco ball, the newspaper said. The crowd roared as the ball opened like a flower and the entertainer stepped out singing "Future Lovers."

The show has two more nights in the Los Angeles area then starts snaking across the United States and into Europe and Asia.

Los Angeles fans paid a top price of $350 dollars a ticket for the 22-song concert, the newspaper said.
