SALT LAKE CITY — On the heels of waiving Jamaal Tinsley, the Utah Jazz announced the official signing of Diante Garrett, a 6-4 guard most recently affiliated with the Iowa Energy of the NBA Development League.

Garrett is a combo guard, averaging 17.3 points, 3 rebounds, 7.3 assists and 1.6 steals in his eight games in the D-League. Garrett has a nice percentage (.619) from three-point range and shoots a .491 average.

The 23-year-old spent some time in Croatia and France during the 2011-12 season after spending four years at Iowa State, where he is the school's all-time leader in games played (128). Garrett is second on the all-time career assists record for Iowa State with 611 — fifth in the Big 12 Conference.

Garrett is also one of three players in Big 12 Conference history to score 1,300 points and have 600 assists — Kirk Hinrich, Kansas, and John Roberson, Texas Tech, were the other two.

Following his time in Croatia and France, Garrett spent some time with the Phoenix Suns during the 2012-13 season and was also invited to participate in the Oklahoma City Thunder preseason training camp in 2013. While with the Suns, Garrett averaged 2.1 points and 1.6 assists in less than 10 minutes of play.

Garrett will wear the No. 8 for the Jazz. He is already with the team and has participated in practice.
