This is Fred Ball for Zions Bank, speaking on business.

After working at an architectural firm for several years, JoAnn Hanson was surprised when the owner of the company announced he would be going on sabbatical so she would need to seek new employment.

Instead of searching for a new job, she decided to use her 27 years of accounting and bookkeeping skills to start her own business. She took classes, researched and prepared herself for the responsibility of becoming a small business owner. Evergreen Accounting Services, the result of her hard work, officially launched in 2002.

Evergreen Accounting Services offers a variety of accounting and bookkeeping services including accounts receiving and accounts payable, payroll and payroll taxes. The company is also set up to assist in the creation of a small business. JoAnn is proficient in QuickBooks, Excel and typing. She enjoys helping business owners reduce and improve their taxes and learn to manage cash flow better.

During the month of January, JoAnn keeps busy creating 1099s and W2 forms for her customers. One of the only services she doesn't offer is preparing taxes, but she will help companies gather their bookwork to deliver to a CPA.

A unique aspect of Evergreen is that JoAnn sets up an accounting system specifically tailored to the business instead of using the same system for all clients. She also handles all bookwork personally and will work from a client's office, instead of her home office, if that's what they prefer.

JoAnn says business has steadily grown in the six years since she launched her company. However, she hopes to keep Evergreen Accounting Services, Inc. at its present size so she can remain a hands-on owner and continue offering clients the best service possible.

For Zions Bank, I'm Fred Ball. I'm speaking on business.
