SALT LAKE CITY — Logan High School will play it's quarterfinal game Friday against Olympus without it's quarterback and leader Chase Nelson.

Nelson, a senior, was ejected from last Friday's win over Bountiful, which automatically turns into a suspension for the next game — a playoff match-up with the Titans. There is no process to appeal this suspension to the Utah High School Activities Association.

However, it is not an "open and shut" case as far as Logan head coach Mike Favero is concerned. The moment that got Nelson kicked out and suspended came after he scored a touchdown and in the process of the tackle, hurt his knee. When his teammate tried to help him up, according to Dr. Marlowe Goble, who has knowledge of Nelson's knee history, Chase had an involuntary reaction to the pain that caused his knee to jerk.

Mike Petty, who is the head of officials for the UHSAA also told the Deseret News, "We did take a look at film from (several) different angles. We saw no evidence that shows we should overturn the ejection," Petty said.

Mike Favero and Kevin Dustin, the assistant director of the Utah High School Activities Association, joined myself and Amy Donaldson (Deseret News) on High School Football Game Night Monday night on ESPN 700. They explained their positions on the Chase Nelson suspension.
