SALT LAKE CITY — Utah Jazz rookie point guard Trey Burke will undergo surgery Tuesday to repair a broken bone in his right index finger. Burke injured his hand in the first half of a preseason game against the visiting Los Angeles Clippers Saturday.

No official estimate for the recovery time was given in a press release from the Jazz, but a typical timetable for return to play is six to eight weeks. The procedure will be performed in Salt Lake City by Dr. Douglas Hutchinson, who is expected to give more details about the recovery after the procedure.

Burke re-entered the game in the second quarter after getting treatment for the injured finger, but didn't play in the second half and finished the game with two points and four assists in 14 minutes.

The injury brings a quick end to the experimental Jazz starting lineup after one game featuring the five young building block players for the future. John Lucas III will likely replace Burke in the starting lineup with Gordon Hayward, Enes Kanter, Derrick Favors, and Alec Burks.

UPDATE:

8-12 weeks is very unreasonable people and idk who made that up. I appreciate the support and prayers but 4-6 weeks is more likely. Thanks — Trey Burke (@Trey_Burke3) October 15, 2013

NOTES:In other Jazz news Monday, the team waived center/forward Dwayne Jones II, reducing the preseason roster to 19 players.

Jones II (6-11, 250, Saint Joseph's) appeared in one preseason game for Utah.
