SALT LAKE CITY — The top teams in the state took care of business last week ensuring there would be no change atop this week's polls.
Bingham remains No. 1 in 5A after defeating Brighton 38-27. The Miners remain undefeated at 7-0 and are followed in the poll by the only other undefeated team left in 5A.
Davis is No. 2 after a bye week and now prepares for a tough challenge against Region 1 foe Northridge. They are followed in the poll by Brighton, Jordan and Riverton, who scored 71 points last Friday against Lehi.
East remains No. 1 in 4A as they continue to dominate their competition. They are followed in the poll by Logan, who dismantled rival Sky View 52-21. Timpview is No. 3 in 4A, followed by Woods Cross, who went on the road and defeated Highland 41-21. Sky View rounds out the top five in 4A.
Malu Hosea, Cottonwood
The latest Hosea in the Colts backfield rushed for a school record 327 yards and four TDs on 27 carries in the Colts' 48-12 win over Granger.
Scott Nichols, Bingham
He rushed for 206 yards and three touchdowns powering Bingham to a 38-27 victory over Brighton.
Jesse McMullin, Beaver
Jesse led the Beaver's ground game carrying the ball 26 times for 202 yards with four touchdowns in a shutout win over North Sevier.
Kamren Fowles, Manti
He rushed for 135 yards and 3 scores on offense and also led the team in tackles with 13 and a sack. They knocked off Richfield 36-27.
Gabe Reid, Timpview
Reid led the team with six tackles and a sack. He also blocked a punt in the 1st quarter and returned it for a 25-yard touchdown.
Juan Diego is the only undefeated team remaining in 3AA. They are followed in the top five by Dixie, who made a statement with a 27-7 win over Desert Hills. Pine View, Desert Hills and Stansbury round out the top five in 3AA.
Morgan remains No. 1 in 3A as they prepare for their rival, 4th ranked Grantsville, on Friday. Judge Memorial is No. 2, followed by Manti, who will host No. 5 Juab in a key 3A South contest.
South Summit is 7-0 and No. 1 in 2A, followed by Beaver, Grand, North Summit and Layton Christian. South Summit and North Summit continue their rivalry this Friday in Kamas.
The game of the year in 1A is this Friday as No. 1 Duchesne hosts No. 2 Rich. The two teams have had great battles over the years. These two teams have combined to win the last four 1A state championships.
They are followed in the 1A top five by Kanab, Monticello and Diamond Ranch.
