SALT LAKE CITY — BYU was the sole winner over the weekend, with both Utah and Utah State falling short. Utah came close to beating No. 12 UCLA, but was plagued by turnovers. Utah State lost starting quarterback to a season-ending knee injury, which altered the team's game plan. Nevertheless, the KSL Sports team has voted and they've selected BYU receiver Mitch Mathews as this week's ksl.com Player of the Week.

Player of the Week:

Mitch Mathews, WR, BYU

BYU wide receiver Mitch Mathews set single-game career highs for receptions, receiving yards and touchdowns in BYU's 31-14 win at Utah State last Friday night.

Coming into the USU game with 10 career catches, Mathews hauled in five balls for 112 yards and three touchdowns, including a career-long 43-yard reception that capped his scoring performance.

On the season, the 6-foot-6 sophomore from Beaverton, Ore. now has 13 receptions for 234 yards and three touchdowns, leading the Cougars in all three categories.

Honorable mention:

Keith McGill, CB, Utah

Keith McGill had a 19-yard interception return for a touchdown that breathed life back into the game for the Utes. On a night that the offense just couldn't get anything going, the defense was nothing short of stellar, holding the Bruins 200 yards shy of their season average.

McGill, along with the secondary as a whole, has made dramatic improvements since the 51-48 loss to Oregon State.

Kyler Fackrell, LB, Utah State

Kyler Fackrell set a career high with 13 tackles and two tackles for a loss.
