KSL urges citizens to approach tomorrow's history-making visit of Mexican President Vicente Fox with open minds. Collectively, let us be more inclined to listen to what he has to say, rather than symbolically, if not actually, trying to shout him down.

There is no denying the immigration debate will be front and center. It should! The influx of Mexican migrants, mostly here illegally, is having enormous impact, for good and for bad, on Utah's economy and culture.

KSL hopes President Fox speaks candidly about immigration. Utahns need to hear his views and what his government is doing to stop, rather than encourage illegal immigration.

At the same time, we hope the intensity of immigration issues won't overwhelm the many other positive things the visit has the potential to generate.

For example, substantial progress in Utah-Mexico economic ties has been reported since Governor Huntsman visited Mexico City last summer. As noted by Salt Lake Mexican Consul Salvador Jimenez, of 10 companies that recently sent representatives to Mexico, seven are likely to sign contracts. More trade missions are planned.

Mexico, it should be remembered, is Utah's third largest trading partner. Fostering that economic relationship is of value to every Utahn.

So, in the spirit of understanding, KSL is delighted President Fox will be on Utah soil tomorrow, and we extend a warm and enthusiastic welcome.
