This is Chris Redgrave for Zions Bank Speaking on Business.

Young Electric Sign Company, or Yesco, is a true Utah company, founded in 1920.... Now in their 93rd year of operation and third generation of family ownership, Yesco designs, engineers and manufactures large and small signs, right here in Utah...You've probably seen their work in Salt Lake City, especially around City Creek Center ...

It was Thomas Young, senior, who started the company after immigrating to Utah in the early 1900s..... He offered his hand lettering skills on early works of glass, metal — even doing coffin plates ..... Thomas worked on just about anything, doing it all by hand.... In fact, one of his earliest signs was for Lamb's Grill in downtown...

Today, some 93 years later, his descendants carry on his legacy, using his skills for everything from signs on restaurants to banks and retail centers .... Jeff Young, chief marketing officer, says Yesco cares about all signs, whether they designed and built them or not. They'll retrofit signs with the newest lighting to save power and make a huge effort to renovate signs so they're more cost efficient.

They're especially excited to ship displays all over the world, showing them off as Utah products and contributing to Utah's impressive export total, which has grown consecutively for 10 years... Last summer they shipped the largest LED sign in London for the Olympic Games .... They also designed a number of signs for the Olympic Games in Salt Lake City in 2002, bringing in a whole team to maintain them.

One of the more interesting aspects of Yesco, and one that everyone seems to want to know about, is — how do they change burned out bulbs? The answer is simple — they make those changes using professionals who rappel down to signs as well as using a staging crew...Simple answer — not-so-simple process.

But there's more to their signs than just advertising...They can also use them to post Amber Alerts within seconds of receiving one... dozens of fugitives have been caught with help from the software and sign technology created by Yesco...

For Zions Bank, I'm Chris Redgrave, speaking on business.
