Acclaimed film-maker PEDRO ALMODOVAR has been honoured in his native Spain with the Asturias Prize For Art.

The ALL ABOUT MY MOTHER director, 56, received the accolade in Madrid yesterday (17MAY06) before boarding a plane to the south of France to attend the Cannes Film Festival.

Almodovar says, "It's one of the most important prizes I've ever received. I feel overwhelmed."

The jury for the Asturias Prize chose Almodovar for "the ingenuity and sincerity of his films and the zest and vivacity of his screenplays". (ES/WNWCCB/SC)
