WASHINGTON, May 17, 2006 (UPI via COMTEX) -- CBS soap star Kate Linder Wednesday received the All-Star Award from the Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis Association in Washington.

Linder, who has played Esther Valentine on the "Young and the Restless" for 24 years, was honored for her efforts to combat the disease during the ALSA's Celebration of Excellence Reception and Awards Presentation.

In making the presentation, ALSA President Gary Leo described Linder as "a committed, action-oriented Hollywood celebrity" who has "made a big difference in raising awareness about ALS."

Linder stars in a public service announcement for the group's "Walk to D' Feet" fundraiser and has appeared at several of the association's events across the country. She testified before a U.S. Senate committee, advocating more funds to combat the degenerative disease.

Linder said she became involved with the ALSA a year-and-a-half ago when her brother was diagnosed with ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig's Disease.
