Controversial Danish images of the Prophet Mohammed have been reprinted in an American magazine.
Harper's magazine is publishing the images in its June edition, joining only a handful of outlets that have printed the cartoons.
Their publication elsewhere has lead to protests in which 50 people have been killed worldwide.
Denmark's Jyllands-Posten newspaper first printed the 12 cartoons last year.
In a Harper's article headlined "Drawing Blood: Outrageous Cartoons and the Art of Outrage," Art Spiegelman, famous for his New Yorker cartoons, says the drawings must be seen to be understood.
"As a secular Jewish cartoonist living in New York City, I start out with four strikes against me, but I really don't want any irate Muslims declaring holy war on me," Spiegelman writes.
