SALT LAKE CITY — With the Utah Jazz season less than two months away, and preseason even closer, the Jazz are starting actual construction on the much-anticipated new big screen.

There isn't much to talk about yet, but the Jazz social media people released a first big look at what the frames of the board will be:

"Pardon Our Dust" — Utah Jazz (@utahjazz), Sept. 3, 2013

It took a small machine to lower and remove the old screen from the arena. This new one needs cranes to put it together.

And while there isn't a lot of perspective in this picture, just look at the 10-foot ladder behind the front screen. It isn't even a quarter of the way up the screen. The tops of the screens look like they are level with the 20th row.

The dimensions have already been talked about, but this is the first good chance to see what is going on.

Will Oct. 30 never come? Here is another shot from Chris Olinger who works for YESCO, the company supplying the board.

Early season play of the year

The mad scramble with a pitch to win the game isn't new in football. It has probably happened, well, almost every year. That doesn't mean it isn't exciting to watch.

There was one second left in the game and Copperas Cove High School in Texas had just kicked the go-ahead field goal. Now all it needed to do was make one tackle and the game would be over. It chose to squib the kick and the ball bounced all around the field.

Eventually, High and A&M Consolidated's Brandon Jackson picked it up and looked for running room. Copperas Cove players forced him toward the sideline and it looked like all hope was lost. Jackson pitched the ball back to Derrick Dick who was looking to make a big play.

Dick reversed field, then danced around a Copperas Cove player, seriously he ran a circle around No. 36 in blue. Dick then decided to go across the field looking for an opening. He managed to turn the corner and put on the burners.

Two blocker opened the way for him to have his moment in the sun. After scoring the game-winning touchdown. he jumped on the student section fence and does a pretty cool celebration with a young fan.

There will likely be more of these plays through the year, but it was the first in 2013.

The most hardcore selfie

His name is Toby Flood and he took a selfie over the weekend. For those who don't know, a selfie is a picture someone takes of themselves.

Oh, the picture was of him being carted away from his rugby match wearing a neck brace. You want proof? Here you go:

"How's everyone else's day going?" — Toby Flood (@tobyflood), Aug. 31, 2013

Just one of the many reasons why rugby players are awesome — and insane. Flood gives a thumbs up while strapped to a board to make sure his neck doesn't move.

The rugby league Flood plays in is starting to take a hard look at concussions, much like the NFL, so he went to the hospital for testing. That is where he took the picture.

Sometimes people are just cool and when a rugby player gets strapped to a board because of a concussion and still remembers to tweet out a picture like this, with the humorous tag “How's everyone else's day going?” attached, that is one cool guy.

Best wishes for a speedy recovery.
