SONOMA, Calif. (AP) - Lucas Luhr's IndyCar debut at Sonoma Raceway was four laps short of being a solid success.
Mechanical problems prevented the German sports car veteran from finishing in his Sarah Fisher Hartman Racing Honda on Sunday.
After spending the week getting ready to face Sonoma's dusty track and unpredictable winds, Luhr wished he had done a bit better in his first open-wheel race since 1998.
"It was a shame we couldn't finish it, because I think we had maybe a top-14 or -15 finish in it," Luhr said. "Towards the end of the race, I was getting quicker, and I just had a lot of fun. I think we were more competitive in the race than we've been all weekend long, and that to me shows that the learning curve is going in the right direction."
Luhr is a five-time champion in the American Le Mans Series.
