In 1961, Denis and Taunya Petersen were raising a young family and trying to make ends meet..... As a gifted welder, Denis decided to put his talents to work and started a small welding business in his garage, even getting his kids involved in the venture.... It became a total family business... This was the humble beginning of Petersen, Inc. in Ogden.
Hard to imagine for the Petersens, but it's been over 50 years since that happened.... And today, their company, Petersen, Incorporated, is known as a heavy plate fabricator and precision machine shop.... They're also a large warehouse and distribution company providing services to Boeing... And in Ogden, they run a large third-party logistics business to support production of commercial aircraft tools....
In fact, Boeing is one of the company's largest customers, but so are EnergySolutions, ATK, Westinghouse and Rio Tinto... Petersen, Inc.'s market extends internationally, but the main campus is in Ogden, Utah... Diversification is an important part of their business model since they support companies worldwide in chemicals, mining, aerospace, defense, and nuclear.
In fact, 52 years has refined their business to such a point that this year Boeing recognized Petersen as one of their Suppliers of the Year...Not everyone enjoys this type of recognition....To give you an idea of the scope of this award, Boeing recognized six companies out of 23,000 suppliers worldwide, so Rob Despain, vice president of business development, says they feel fortunate, honored and humbled to be recognized for their work....
Petersen, Inc. has a total of 453 employees, between manufacturing and fabrication... Today the company enjoys second and third generation family involvement... The employees have always worked like they own the company and now they really do since it's a 100 percent employee-owned business... Rob says they have great facilities and a talented staff, many of whom have been with the company for years...
It's a proud moment to realize the international Petersen, Inc. all started with one man, a dream and a 20 by 20 garage...
