LOGAN — The preseason accolades continue to roll in for Utah State quarterback Chuckie Keeton. Monday morning he was named to the 2013 Maxwell Award Watch List. The Maxwell Award is given to America's College Player of the Year.
The Houston native is one of 76 FBS players named to the list, including 32 quarterbacks. He is the only player from the state on the list and joins six other players from the Mountain West Conference: San Jose State quarterback David Fales, Fresno State quarterback Derek Carr, Nevada quarterback Cody Fajardo, San Diego State running back Adam Muema and New Mexico running back Kasey Carrier.
Keeton has already been named to Phil Steele's fouth-team all-Mountain West, 2013 Heismanpundit/CBSSports.com Heisman Trophy Watch List, and the Athlon Sports preseason third-team all-Mountain West. He is also one of 30 quarterbacks named to the College Football Performance Awards Quarterbacks Watch List.
Keeton was a first-team all-WAC selection in 2012, finishing the season with 3,373 yards passing, 27 touchdowns and nine interceptions while completing 67 percent of his passes (275 of 407); he also rushed for 619 yards and 8 touchdowns.
Keeton and the Aggies open their season in a mere 52 days at Rice-Eccles Stadium with the University of Utah. Utah State defeated the Utes, in overtime, 27-20 in 2012.
