SUWANEE, Ga., May 10, 2006 (UPI via COMTEX) -- The popular Harry Potter books are getting support from a hearing officer in a Georgia school district where a parent is pushing to have the books banned.

Su Ellen Bray, a former DeKalb school administrator, ruled that the books should stay in the Gwinnet County public school's libraries.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports Bray's recommendation isn't binding and is passed on to the school board, which will vote on the books Thursday.

The case stems from parent Laura Mallory, who said the Harry Potter series prompts kids to believe in and take part in witchcraft.

Her appeal of two previous decisions by separate panels was sent to Bray for a ruling.

Bray said kids know the difference between non-fiction and fiction and the books encourage young kids to read.
