SALT LAKE CITY — Every home run ball is special. It's one of those rare souvenirs that every fan of the sport hopes to have when they attend a live game.
However, when the home run ball has some historical importance, that baseball is worth dying for … or even sacrificing your family's health for (I'm not advocating for this type of approach).
In a game between the Chicago White Sox and the Seattle Mariners Wednesday, the two teams went scoreless through the 13th inning (yay, free baseball). But in the 14th inning, both teams found a way to get some hits.
In the top of the 14th, Chicago got things going and managed to score five runs. The game appeared out of reach for Seattle, especially given the lack of hitting in the previous 13 innings. The Mariners had other plans and got things rolling by scoring a run in the bottom of the 14th before loading the bases. Third baseman Kyle Seager came to the plate and hit a grand slam to tie the game.
It's the first time in Major League Baseball history that an extra innings game has been tied up in the bottom of an inning by a grand slam. So the grand slam ball has some historical importance.
Queue dad.
In an effort to secure the grand slam ball, one father ran over his own son to get it. I wouldn't recommend doing that, especially with a camera watching your every move. Hopefully everything is OK with his son.
And in case you're wondering, the White Sox ended up winning the game 7-5 in the 16th.
Jim Harbaugh loves Judge Judy
San Francisco 49ers Head Coach Jim Harbaugh apparently loves Judge Judy. He's previously said he's a fan of the show, saying in February at the NFL combine that the draft process was like her courtroom:
"I'm a big fan of the ‘Judge Judy' show. And when you lie in Judge Judy's courtroom, it's over, your credibility is completely lost, you stand no chance of winning that case. I learned that from her. It's very powerful."
Recently, Harbaugh got an opportunity to visit a taping of the show with his father, where he looks like a kid on Christmas when the camera takes a shot of people in the courtroom.
And according to CBS, the Harbaughs even got an opportunity to meet with Judge Judy, playing cards in Judge Judy's office.
Good for Jim Harbaugh — everyone deserves some fun once in a while.
