(NBC News) -- A new diet book by a Miami Beach doctor is now out. On the heels of the South Beach success story comes "the Reality Diet."

DJ Michael Yo looking trim talking to singer Nick Lachey on South Florida Today. But not so trim in this picture with actress Lindsey Lohan taken last year.

Michael Yo/ Dieter: "So I was like I have to change this!!!"

So Michael became one of the test patients for "The Reality diet" before the book was published.

Michael Yo/ Dieter: "Like I said I lost 40 pounds and it's very easy."

The author of this just-released diet book: Dr. Steven Schnur, a Miami Beach cardiologist who used to be in practice with the creator of "the South beach diet".

Steven Schnur, MD/ Cardiologist/ Author: "What prompted me to write this book is that I was seeing patients several years ago with a lot of side effects from the low carb diets. Patients were coming in with headaches, constipation, they were very weak very tired."

Most of your calories come from carbs on the reality diet which allows starchy staples like potatoes and corn. Menus in the book include hotdogs but the low fat kind.

Steven Schnur, MD/ Cardiologist/ Author: "We have chocolate milkshakes, we have hamburgers, hot dogs, we have pizza. Why? Because you can eat it in a healthy way and still lose weight."

On this diet the focus is on fiber. And there is a formula to follow: the 2:90 rule. The carbs you eat should have at least 2 grams of fiber per 90 calorie serving.

Virtually all fruits and vegetables meet that requirement. But when it comes to starches, don't assume because it says whole or multigrain that it fits the formula. You have to read the label."

This wholegrain spaghetti just misses the 2:90 mark... Wonder light White bread passes. Burning 300 calories a day is also a reality requirement.
