5A Baseball Semifinals: Layton beats Riverton 3-2

OREM — Layton defeats Riverton 3-2 to advance to the 5A baseball championship.

Both starting pitchers, Layton's Jaden Trujillo (6IP, 2R, ER, 7 BB, 5 K) and Riverton's Jimi Dixon (5.1 IP, 3R, ER, BB, 2 K) pitched very well in this defensive battle.

Trailing 1-0 in the top of the sixth, Layton scored three runs in the inning to take a 3-1 lead.

Riverton had its chances in the bottom of the seventh inning, but they left the bases loaded as Layton wins to advance to the championship game against Bingham.

In this double-elimination bracket, Layton needs to beat Bingham twice for the title, Bingham just needs to beat Layton once.

The first game begins on Friday at 11:00 a.m. at Brent Brown Ballpark in Orem.
