After of lifetime of physical activity while growing up on the beaches of New Zealand and with his Ph.D. in physiology in hand, Stuart Carter opened Foothill Fitness at 2345 Foothill Blvd in Salt Lake City 30 years ago. He's dedicated his career to educating students and customers in physical science through his business and at universities, including the U of U.
Now, five kids later, the eldest, Nick Carter, is the general manager of Foothill Fitness. Nick and his sister, Danny, who heads the service department, are taking this family business into the second generation. Nick brings his own talent and appreciation of good workout equipment to the table, because he's a pro golfer, in addition to running Foothill Fitness.
He and Danny work with five employees, while dad coaches them on a daily basis. As a fitness equipment dealer, they carry some of the best known products in the industry. For example, they carry two of the biggest fitness companies in the world, Life Fitness and Matrix. Nick says people seek out Foothill Fitness because of their relationship with Life Fitness and the high quality of the equipment. They also have the latest LeMond Recumbent Bikes. In keeping with today's fitness trends, you'll also find cross fit equipment like ropes, sand bags and plio boxes as well as TRX equipment.
Stuart has spent 30 years making lifelong business friends who have remained loyal to the Carter family. We are a better state because of business families like the Carters of Foothill Fitness, who represent us generationally and are part of the group of family-owned companies that make up 90 percent of business in the U.S., which are critical to our local economy.
