SALT LAKE CITY — After an entire season with a signature hairstyle, Wichita State senior Carl Hall decided it was time for a new look come tournament time.

Hall, who had grown out his hair in dreadlocks during his career at Wichita State, shaved his head days before the tournament. Why?

“I just wanted to try something different,” Hall explained. “I wanted to be like a new person coming into this tournament.”

The 6-foot-8 forward has been an integral part of the team this season, averaging 12.8 points per game and 7.2 rebounds in just less than 29 minutes per game. With foul trouble, the senior was limited to two points and three rebounds in the first half.

Perhaps feeling the absence of his hair, Hall was limited in the game, struggling against Pittsburgh 7-foot freshman center Steven Adams's size. Hall picked up his second personal foul with 6:52 remaining in the first half, forcing him to sit the remainder of the period. His teammates rallied without him, entering the half with a 26-21 lead.

Hall’s best play of the game came four minutes into the contest, when he set a quick screen on the left wing, quickly dove to the rim, and threw the ball down after receiving a pass from teammate Ron Baker.

Hall finished with 11 points and six rebounds, both under his season average, but good enough to help his team to victory, 73-55. The Shockers will advance to the third round, where they will play the winner of Gonzaga vs. Southern.
