When Sheldon Birch finished pharmacy school, I'm guessing he wasn't planning to establish his career through a want ad. Yet, that's exactly what happened. And it's why he now operates three branches of Birch Family Pharmacy.
He was reading one of the Salt Lake City papers when he saw an ad for an independent pharmacist in Tooele, Utah. It looked like just the opportunity for him to support his growing family so he and his wife moved their two children from Washington state. They opened Birch Family Pharmacy in Tooele five years ago.

An important service Birch Family Pharmacy offers is compounding, when they make medicines from scratch. This used to be an important service all pharmacies offered; however, in recent years, most have switched to dispensing prepared medicines. In collaboration with patients and prescribers, the team at Birch Family Pharmacy can create custom medicines. They also have automatic refill, a mobile app people can use to request refills, and text alerts for when your prescription is ready.
Sheldon said the Tooele community has been very supportive since he opened Birch Family Pharmacy. When the previous independent pharmacy closed, the customer base wasn't happy to lose it. So, Sheldon kept track of all these customers and when he was ready to open, he contacted them and established a solid clientele.
Birch Family Pharmacy has been successful enough Sheldon has opened two locations in addition to their Tooele operation, in Grantsville and Stansbury Park. All three have drive-thrus to make picking up your prescription as easy as possible. Birch Family Pharmacy is a great example of why the U.S. Census Bureau named Utah third in the nation for overall economic health.
