INDIANAPOLIS — Former BYU Cougar wide receiver Austin Collie has been released by the Indianapolis Colts, Bob Kravitz of the Indianapolis Star reported Friday afternoon.

Collie left BYU in 2009 after being selected by the Indianapolis Colts in the fourth round, as the No. 127 overall. Collie holds the multiple receiving records at BYU, including receptions in a season, most receiving yards in a season and career, and most touchdown passes caught.

Unfortunately for the talented wideout, he was unable to avoid injury, playing in 42 games in his four years. He was infamous for two concussions during the 2010 season, both coming from helmet-to-helmet hits by defenders.

Collie suffered a concussion in the 2012 preseason after a healthy 2011 campaign.

Collie most recently ruptured his patella tendon during the 2012 season, and was in the process of recovering from that setback after playing in one game on the season.

Collie played four seasons with the Colts, and totaled 173 receptions for 1,845 yards and caught 16 touchdowns during his career. His contract with the team was due to expire on March 12.

Collie now will be able to pursue employment with other teams in the league, along with teammate Dwight Freeney, who was also released by the Colts.

Collie is one of the players who has been waived recently by his team, along with players such as Charles Woodson (Green Bay), Nick Barnett (Buffalo), Kyle Vanden Bosch (Detroit) and Ahmad Bradshaw (NY Giants).
