(KSL News) -- Bausch and Lomb, the maker of "ReNu Moisture-lock" contact lens clear is asking stores to take it off the shelves. The solution may be linked to eye infections and even blindness.

Health officials are still not sure of the reasons for the connection between the solution and the infection-- caused by an fungus called fusarium. But they know many of those with the infections used ReNu. The infection is very serious.

Dr. Kathryn Colby, Massachusetts Eye and Ear: "Fusarium is a very aggressive fungus and it is difficult to treat Medically. Many of the patients that we treat fail medical treatment and require surgery for cure."

The surgery is corneal transplant. Already some of the victims have required it and doctors fear many more will.
