SALT LAKE CITY -- Tens of thousands of U.S. troops serving in the war zones will have a merrier Christmas this year because of some giving Utahns.

Dozens of volunteers stuffed candy, toys and other goodies into thousands of stockings at the Operation Give warehouse in South Salt Lake Friday morning.

Each year, the foundation collects gifts and stockings to send to troops serving in both Iraq and Afghanistan.

"You're away during the holidays, so you're automatically thinking about, ‘My goodness, I'm not there. Everybody's getting together.' So this is a way of sending a bit of Christmas; letting them know we support them, we care about them, we haven't forgot about them," said Paul Holton, founder and president of Operation Give.

Operation Give hopes to send between 20,000 and 25,000 stockings this year.

The foundation plans to host another volunteer event on Thursday, Nov. 12, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. CLICK HERE to find out how you can help.
