(Mickey Anderson, Fish Tech Outfitters)
In the summer I practice fly fishing, in the winter I practice ice fishing. Boy do I need the practice. I'm Mickey Anderson from Fish Tech with this week's Fishing Report. I didn't do very well Saturday, but other people did. Scott from Maniac Lures did really well using an orange cutter bug tipped with a little bit of mealworm, and his secret was to put a little bit of garlic sand on there. The other thing is he didn't move that much, he just let the rod sit. The other people that I talked to that caught fish Saturday and days before were using off-white, green, blue and chartreuse, and even a rat binky tipped with a little bit of power bait. On any of the lures you're using make sure that you've always got a little bit of bait. Power bait, mealworms, wax worms, a piece of minnow, even a little piece if nightcrawler. If you're in a big crowd and fish get a little bit spooky, try going really small. These little teeny gizzy bugs are a Tungsten eye spy. For help with your ice fishing, whether practicing or real, come on down to Fish Tech and we'll help you out. Now for tonights fishing line.
FISH LAKE
ICE IS OVER A FOOT THICK WITH ONLY A LIGHT COVER OF SNOW ON TOP. PERCH AND SMALL TROUT FISHING IS FAST JUST OUTSIDE THE WEEDS IN 12-25 FT. OF WATER. LARGER RAINBOW AND SPLAKE TROUT CAN BE FOUND IN 20-40 FT. BY FISHING ON THE BOTTOM OR SUSPENDING OVER DEEP WATER. A FISH FINDER CAN BE A BIG HELP IN LOCATING LAKE TROUT!
ROCKPORT RESERVOIR
FISHING IS GOOD AND THE ICE IS IN GOOD SHAPE. ANGLERS ARE CATCHING FISH ALL AROUND THE LAKE. THE TRADITIONAL BAITS ARE WORKING WELL. TRY ICE FLIES TIPPED WITH WAX WORMS, NIGHTCRAWLERS OR POWERBAIT. THE IDEAL DEPTH HAS BEEN 15-25 FT. IF FISHING IS SLOW, TRY MOVING AROUND.
