SALT LAKE CITY — Formula One racing isn't a huge draw in the United States, but you don't have to be a gearhead to appreciate the fine vehicles the drivers compete with.
Ferrari revealed their 2013 Formula One model, the F138, on Friday.
"I looked at the new McLaren and saw a lot of positive points," said BBC journalist Gary Anderson. "The list of obvious gains is smaller on the Ferrari but we'll have to see how it goes on the track."
Last season, seven different teams finished in the top spot in the first seven races, an anomaly from historic trends.
"It will be very difficult to repeat what we saw last year with seven winners in the first seven races," Fernando Alonso, a Formula One driver, said. "There will be three teams who win all the races and we have to be one of those teams."
Barnes receives suspension
Matt Barnes, a small forward with the Los Angeles Clippers, received a one-game suspension after striking Minnesota center Greg Steisma in the throat with his forearm during a game.
Barnes was ejected for the hit, which came as he was trying to run through a screen during the second quarter. The Clippers won the game, although by six points against the wounded Timberwolves, who are without All-Star Kevin Love.
Perhaps Barnes can use the time off, when he serves his suspension against Toronto, to cool down north of the border. Toronto tattoo parlors, ye be warned.
Pronk Puts on Pinstripes
Travis Hafner, the former Cleveland Indians slugger, reached an agreement with the New York Yankees on a one-year, $2 million contract.
Hafner, who was referred to as Pronk by teammates and fans during his 10-year career with the Indians, comes to the Yankees as a career .278 hitter with 201 home runs. The left-handed hitting designated hitter has hit all but 49 of those homeruns off of right-handed pitching, against which he bats .287. Hafner has struggled to stay healthy, and his playing time will hinge on his ability to stay out of the trainer's room while with the Yankees.
It's not the big-time acquisition expected of the Yankees - perhaps they've finally started to adopt "Moneyball" strategy after all. The team has 18 players under contract for around $208 million next season.
Vince Carter Goes Geriatric on Golden State
Some of us may still remember the half-man, half-amazing days of Vince Carter. His dunk in the Olympics over the nation of France is one of the top dunks of all time.
It's been more than a decade since Carter was at the peak of his leaping ability, but the old veteran still has a little hop in his legs.
