SALT LAKE CITY — The high point of the season came in the third game - a 22 point, 16 rebound performance against Idaho State, and that doesn't even describe the domination.
Utah's 7-foot sophomore from Calgary had stolen the starting spot from Jason Washburn.
Dallin Bachynski, the transfer from Southern Utah University was a sky rocketing player and a possible fan favorite after the game against the Bengals.
He had another good game in the win against Wright State with 16 points and seven rebounds. He was a physical force against BYU, but after that he has disappeared.
He had disappeared so much that last week in the postgame press conference after getting beat by Cal, Krystkowiak said he wanted to meet one-on-one with Bachynski.
The two met, and "After meeting with Dallin, he and I agreed that it was in the best interest of both parties for him to step away from playing basketball for the time being. He will remain a part of our program during this time as he takes a break from active competition," Utah head coach Larry Krystkowiak said.
Since the conference season started, Bachynski has averaged just five minutes per game, and that includes not even dressing against Stanford.
Going forward, Jeremy Olsen will receive the bulk of the extra minutes for the struggling Utes team.
Utah hosts Colorado Saturday. The Utes will be honoring former head coach Rick Majerus at halftime. His sweater will be retired to the Huntsman Center rafters.
