Carroll scores 32 point in Aggie win over Utah Valley State

LOGAN, Utah (AP) -- Jaycee Carroll scored 32 points and pulled down a game-high six rebounds to lead Utah State to a 87-65 win over Utah Valley State College in the first round of the Gossner Foods Holiday Classic on Thursday.

Carroll became the third player in Utah State history to score 2,000 career points and passed Wayne Estes to move into second place in career points scored at Utah State.

Gary Wilkinson also scored 16 for the Aggies (8-5) and Tai Wesley had 10. Ryan Toolson led Utah Valley (4-8) with 19 and Joe Walker grabbed 10 rebounds for the Wolverines.

Utah State burst out to a 28-6 advantage in the first half, behind 15 points and three 3-pointers from Carroll. The Wolverines then clawed back to 35-21 with 5:40 left in the half, with Toolson hitting seven points during the run.

The closest the Wolverines came in the second half was 15 on a Jordan Brady layup. The Aggies shot 60.9 percent from the field in the second half.

Utah State shot 11-for-23 from behind the 3-point line in the game. The Aggies made six 3-point shots in the first half and took a 48-34 edge at intermission.

Utah State will face Northern Arizona Friday night in the tournament championship game.
