Today while driving around on a story I saw the first gas station in the Salt Lake valley posting $3 on their sign. It was for premium but it was the first one over $3 that wasn’t diesel. Personally I’m not feeling the pinch this time around like I was last year. I think I’m better prepared because you had to know this was going to happen again. I just bought a new mountain bike and I find I’m riding that to the store or to the post office instead of just taking a quick trip in my car.

Just a few days ago I did a story about Murray gas stations having the lowest prices on average in the whole country at $2.26. Now everyone would be extra happy to pay that price. The challenge of gas prices going up is trying to find different stories to tell besides everyone being upset. I mean that’s kind of obvious. Plus I don’t want to cover the same story angles I did last year when we had this same problem. Repetition can make this job really boring when you start to cover the same stories over and over again.

So I’m starting to collect a pile of story ideas on my desk to cover the gas situation. I think we’ll have some interesting and new angles that you haven’t heard before and that will be interesting to hear. Of course you’ll still have to pay an insane amount of money but at least you’ll have something different to talk about at work.

If you have an interesting gas story angle pass it along. The best story ideas come from listeners.
