Veteran actress BRENDA BLETHYN is in the middle of a writing frenzy after panicking she may not finish her autobiography in time to meet her publishing deadline.

MIXED FANCIES charts the SAVING GRACE star's early life, but hectic filming schedules have left the actress 15,000 words short with just three weeks to go.

The 60-year-old says, "I'm not sure I'll be able to meet the deadline, especially as I've just come back from making a film in Australia and I'm still jet-lagged.

"The book is mainly about my childhood and growing up after the war. I called it Mixed Fancies because when I was young, my mother used to give me a shilling to go out and get some."

And the star is enjoyed the writing process so much, she is turning to scriptwriting: "I've never written anything before so it's been an interesting thing to do. I wrote a comedy a few years ago, but nothing ever came of it. Maybe I'll resurrect it now." (JB/WNTE/SC)
