LONDON, Apr 27, 2006 (UPI via COMTEX) -- Britain's Daily Mail has paid substantial damages to Hollywood star Sharon Stone for falsely reporting she left her son in a car while she ate.
The newspaper also apologized for its story alleging Stone left the 4-year-old in her vehicle for two hours while she dined with a date at a London restaurant, the BBC reported Thursday.
"The article conveyed the clear allegation that Sharon Stone had neglected her son in a shameful and selfish way," her attorney told London's High Court.
In reality, the boy was in the restaurant dining with his mother.
Stone said she would donate to charity the undisclosed settlement paid by Associated Newspapers, owner of the Daily Mail.
