Last week on Sound Bites I mentioned that Christmas for me had come early this year. That’s because faithful KSL listeners had steered me toward not one, but TWO terrific pizza parlors. And to be more specific, these are both places that serve authentic New York style pizza – the kind you usually get by the slice from countless pizzerias all over New York City.
Well last week I talked about Nevole’s pizza on 11400 South in Sandy, run by Olympic coach Randy Will. He serves great New York style pizza. And now for a second slice of pizza pie, my other favorite pizza pick for New York style pizza is at the other end of the Wasatch front, to the north in Clearfield.
Not too far from Hill Air base and the Layton mall, on South State Street in Clearfield, is a nice little pizzeria called Tommy Angelo’s. Tommy is a young kid, who took over his family’s pizza business when they recently moved back East. But this youngster sure knows a thing or two about New York style pizza! Tommy Angelo’s cheese pizza is a thin-crust pie with delicious sauce and just the right amount of mozzarella: not too much and not too little. And his meatball pizzas are fantastic too. Service at Tommy Angelo’s is really friendly – something you might not find in New York. And his pasta dishes are terrific as well.
So if like me, New York pizza is a present you’re hoping for this holiday season, I recommend heading north to South State Street in Clearfield to Tommy Angelo’s or south to Sandy for Nevole’s. You’ll find perfect New York pizza at both pizzerias.
