If there’s one thing in this world that makes me crazy, it’s the idea of childhood hunger. And so I like to let KSL listeners know from time to time about efforts that our local Utah restaurants and chefs are making to help bring an end to childhood hunger. One especially interesting such effort is next week’s DiRoNA Restaurant Week.

First, I should explain what a DiRoNA is. DiRoNA stands for Distinguished Restaurants of North America and only the best restaurants in North America are deemed superior enough to be given the DiRoNA Award of Excellence. Well, next week from August 22nd through the 26th, award-winning DiRoNA restaurants around North America are teaming up to help fight hunger. For those five nights, each DiRoNA restaurant will offer a special 3-course fixed price meal, donating a portion of each meal to the local, national, and international organization Share Our Strength, a non-profit organization dedicated to fighting hunger.

Locally, the DiRoNA restaurants pitching in to help raise money to fight childhood hunger are Log Haven restaurant in Millcreek Canyon, Metropolitan Restaurant downtown, Park City’s The Riverhorse, and The Glitretind at Stein Eriksen Lodge in Deer Valley. The owners and chefs of these four fine restaurants are all generously donating a portion of next week’s DiRoNA Week restaurant receipts to Share Our Strength.

Well, if you’re interested in having a great meal while also helping to fight childhood hunger, just call any of the participating restaurants for a reservation. That’s the 22nd through the 26th at Log Haven, The Metropolitan, The Riverhorse, and The Glitretind.
