This is Chris Redgrave for Zions Bank Speaking on Business.

Like so many others, Julie Jakob's story of how she ended up in Utah has to do with snow.

The kids loved ski racing and were very involved....As nice as California is, well—it's not Utah. And that's why, eight years ago, Julie and Karl Jakob moved from Sacramento..... It's not every day you hear a story about how the parents moved somewhere so the kids could ski more. But, the Jakobs did.

So, the kids got to ski every day and that made them happy.... And Julie moved her business, Jakob Marketing Partners to Utah seamlessly---and that made her happy...... With Karl coming on board last year, the company is running flawlessly.

Creating Jakob Marketing Partners wasn't easy....It starts as all things do--- with a problem..... Julie was working full-time for a big company, commuting 160 miles per day---and that meant she wasn't getting a lot of time with her children....And that didn't work for her... So, she quit her job with no plan because she wanted to spend more time with her kids....Almost immediately, she used her experience to dabble as a marketing consultant. By 2007, she realized it had turned into a real business with people depending on her.

What makes Jakob Marketing Partners special, aside from having started small, as a home-based business, is how Julie formed partnerships with specialists in certain disciplines.... That way, she could be a one-stop shop, with the ability to bring in partners to assist when she needed the extra help.... So now, instead of going to five different people to pull a job together, clients can just come to Jakob Marketing Partners.

With 17 employees, it's obvious Julie's idea worked....... Now, her company caters to small businesses that don't have big budgets and need to make ideas happen quickly. Her clients can move at the speed their businesses move.
