SALT LAKE CITY — Gotta love NASCAR. Fast cars, big wrecks and fisticuffs.

And this latest brawl was pretty intense. Let me give you the quick version of what happened Sunday at Phoenix International Raceway.

Tired of Clint Bowyer's antics all season, four-time champ Jeff Gordon slowed down and waited for Bowyer so he could intentionally wreck him.

After Gordon climbed from his car in the garage, he appeared to be jumped from behind by one of Bowyer's crew members, which led to a huge brawl between crews.

Bowyer sprinted from his car to join the fracas, but was held back by NASCAR officials from entering Gordon's hauler.

"It's pretty embarrassing," Bowyer said. "For a four-time champion, and what I consider one of the best this sport's ever seen to act like this is pretty ridiculous."

Gordon was retaliating for several weeks of on-track contact between the two.

"Things just got escalated over the year, and I'd just had it," he said. "Clint has run into me numerous times, wrecked me, and he got into me on the back straightaway and pretty much ruined our day. I've had it, fed up with it and I got him back."

But the best comment comes from Kevin Harvick who is encouraging the brew haha.

"The sport was made on fights. We should have more fights. I like fights," Harvick said after the race. "They're not always fun to be in, sometimes you're on the wrong end, but fights are what made NASCAR what it is."

LeBron burnedIt is usually LeBron James embarrassing his opponents, not the other way around. But on Sunday the Grizzlies' Rudy Gay made James look like a clumsy big-shoed clown.

Gay drives one way, then goes behind his back leaving James in his dust, then soars for a one-handed slam.

It was pretty and James looked in shock.

No, it doesn't happen often, but it was a topper to a bad night for the Heat, which lost 104-86.

Oops! video bomb

During BYU's shellacking of Idaho Saturday, BYUtv's booth was visited by American Ride host Stan Ellsworth... then by some other random dude looking to take a picture.

I'm pretty sure Ellsworth was supposed to be there. I'm pretty sure the "video bomber" was not.

But I'm not sure what's more entertaining the random intruder or Ellsworth's call: "Pound it. Pound it... pound it."

The Hope of Herriman

Who knew Sam Gordon, the nation's newest football sensation, is a huge BYU fan?

(If you don't know who I'm taking about, Sam Gordon is a 9-year-old football player from Herriman, who is a girl and is really good).

Well, she is and a huge JJ DiLuigi fan. I bet no one would have guessed that.

During Saturday night's BYU pregame show on BYUtv, KSL TV's Dave McCann interviewed Gordon and she is as cute as she is tough.

"I just think it's really fun to tackle and run and especially being a girl, everyone thinking its a boy sport," said Gordon.

Her dad, Brent, readily admitted he had nothing to do with her skill or ability.

"I didn't teach her any of these skills. she was just born this way."

That's just awesome.

Tricky wishbone

The Texas Longhorns on Saturday honored their revered former head coach Darrell Royal, who invented the Wishbone offense and led Texas to three national championships (1963, 1969, a share of a third in 1970).

Royal died Wednesday at age 88

On the first play from scrimmage the Longhorns lined up in the Wishbone formation, but instead of running the ball up the middle for a few yards the Longhorns tossed in a little trickeration.

Texas surprised everyone, including Iowa State, with a pitch-back reverse pass that went for 47 yards.

Texas maintained that early momentum and soundly beat the Cyclones 33-7.
