LOGAN — The Utah State Aggies again impressed on the field, racking up 516 total yards on offense in a dominating 41-7 victory over New Mexico State in the Aggie Bowl. The USU defense recorded both an interception and a fumble forced on Saturday, allowing NMSU to convert on six of 16 third down attempts. This Utah State team is scary good when on top of its abilities.
Attending the game this past weekend was a former Utah State captain, Seattle Seahawks linebacker Bobby Wagner. The second-round draft pick is making a name for himself in the NFL and has positioned himself well to be the NFC Defensive Rookie of the Year. You can watch and read Wagner’s thoughts on his professional success and the Aggies play in this article.
Wagner wasn’t the only one on the sidelines who is making a name for himself. Sophomore quarterback Chuckie Keeton is turning heads this season with his remarkable talent and maturity. Be sure to check out the great profile piece on Keeton from the Salt Lake Tribune.
Before moving on to this week’s match-up with the UTSA Roadrunners, it should be noted that after all the struggles with place-kicking the Aggies have had this year, redshirt sophomore Nick Diaz was named WAC Special Teams Player of the Week and was named an honorable mention from the College Football Performance Awards after hitting field goals from 53 and 48 yards. The 53-yarder was the first attempted field goal of Diaz’s career and also the eighth longest in USU history.
UTSA head football coach Larry Coker has been impressed with the way the Aggies have been playing this season. Coker even went so far as to say that he believes that USU should be a Top 25 team in the country.
While Utah State has yet to crack into the national polls, it is beginning to make waves and looks to finish the season strong and head into its bowl game as WAC champions.
