I was not prepared for the treat I had in store when I walked into church this past Sunday. An LDS Special Needs Mutual group presented our Sacrament Meeting program, and they were incredible! They sing, they give talks, they bear testimony, and they brought tears to every eye in the congregation. During the week, the men work on Scouting—one even earned his Eagle Scout Award at age 65! The women are working on their Young Women Personal Progress medallions, and many local church youth groups come to do a combined monthly activity with them. What a blessing to those teenagers to interact with these amazing people who see each other for whom they truly are. Wouldn't it be wonderful if we could all be so unaffected in the way we view others?
We hope to help you do that, this Sunday on "Mormon Times TV." You'll meet a talented woman who's been blind since birth but is not limited in what she can do—even teaching Gospel Doctrine class on Sunday. She will be part of a panel to help us all better understand and care for the disabled or others with special needs—even as we serve in the Church.
Many LDS women are online with various blogs, based on their talents. But a group of 32 is sharing more than cooking, parenting or fashion tips. You'll see how these so-called "Mormon Mommy Bloggers" have taken bold new steps to spread the good news of the gospel.
