updating my blog entry from below, it's looking more and more likely that ASU will be selected for a BCS bowl, and that Cal wil be ticketed for the Emerald Bowl--meaning UCLA would be slotted for a Las Vegas Bowl.
I hear the Las Vegas Bowl has explored arranging for the 5th place Pac 10 team (UCLA) to play in the 6th place bowl (Armed Forces Bowl), allowing the Las Vegas Bowl to match BYU with Boise State, but that is unlikely. Word is the Armed Forces Bowl is about as excited about UCLA as the Las Vegas Bowl is--which is, not very excited at all.
Either way, it's looking like BYU will be faced with the prospect of playing UCLA three times in a calendar year, with this projected meeting pitting a 19th-ranked Cougar team against a team that is at best mediocre, and at worst, dealing with an administrative and morale meltdown.
