Carroll ties school record as Utah St. beats Santa Clara 71-65

LOGAN, Utah (AP) -- Jaycee Carroll scored 25 points while tying a school record 283 career 3-pointers to lead Utah State to a 71-65 win over Santa Clara on Saturday night.

Stephen DuCharme also dropped in 12 points and pulled down a team-high 10 rebounds for the Aggies (5-4). Gary Wilkinson added 11 points and five rebounds.

Brody Angley led Santa Clara (5-2) with a career-high 22 points and John Bryant scored 20 points for the Broncos.

With the score 60-55 and 4:10 to play, Carroll scored two 3-point shots within a 30-second span to give USU its biggest lead of the game. The Broncos then went on a 10-1 run and made the score 67-65 with 1:05 to play.

Angley then missed a 3-point attempt and the Aggies dropped in four free throws to seal the win.

USU's first lead came early in the second half, when Carroll hit a 3-point shot to make it 31-30.

In the first half, Santa Clara led by as many as nine points. Santa Clara's defense forced seven turnovers from the Aggies and Santa Clara outrebounded Utah State 17-13 in the half, helping give the Broncos a 30-26 halftime edge.
