Top five performances of the week

Luke Falk QB Logan

Luke Falk is the latest in a long line of Logan quarterbacks putting up big numbers week in and week out. He was 43 of 63 for 457 yards and six touchdowns in a rivalry game against Sky View. Falk is sure to get the attention of college coaches with his recent performances. Trevon Johnson RB Hunter

The basketball player isn't too bad of a football player either. Johnson came up big when his team needed it most. He carried the ball 28 times for 219 yards and 4 touchdowns doing most of his damage in the 2nd half leading Hunter to an important region win over rival Granger. James Delacenserie QB Wasatch

Delacenserie has been lighting up opposing defenses all year and did it again on Friday. He completed 19-of-29 passes for 333 yards and five touchdowns in an important region victory over Judge. Delacenserie has thrown 25 touchdowns and only three interceptions this season. Jesse Rhodes RB Millard

Rhodes is putting his name in the record book this season. He just passed the 4,000 yards mark for career rushing yards and now has 21 games where he has rushed for 100 or more yards. According to historian George Felt Rhodes needs just three more 100 yard games for the state record. This week he rushed for 251 yards and 3 touchdowns, including a 99-yard touchdown run. Barney continues to thrive in the Dixie offense. He passed for 289 yards and five touchdowns and also rushed for 133 yards and a touchdown in the Flyers win over Canyon View. Most impressive teams of the week

Lone Peak

The Knights were underdogs on their own field and even lost starting quarterback Baron Gajkowski in the third quarter. They didn't give up against a ranked Bingham team with a potential region title on the line. Backup quarterback Braden Miles got his chance to lead the team and he made the most of it completing 14 of 16 passes for 167 yards and two touchdowns. That included the game winning touchdown to Zach Mortensen with 50 seconds left. Now the Knights are ranked in the top five and are in control of the Region 4 title race. Jordan

The Diggers came up one play short on Saturday against California powerhouse St. John Bosco but there was no shame in their performance. They represented Utah well in the Xfinity challenge against a team that many national observers didn't think they could win. Despite coming up one play short their performance should provide a confidence boost to a team that wasn't short on confidence going into the contest. Syracuse

The Titans have established themselves as one of the top football programs in the state in just five short years of existence. They faced their toughest test of the season Friday night at Northridge. It took a goal line stand late in the 4th quarter to seal the win but Syracuse remains perfect on the season and takes control of the Region 1 race. Why is that so important? Region 1 has placed a team in the 5A state championship game in four of the last five seasons. The Titans hope history holds true. Highland

The Rams have been quiet this season but they may be peaking at the right time. After a heart breaking loss to Bountiful in overtime the Rams bounced back and shutout a very talented and ranked Woods Cross team on the road. It kept the Rams region title hopes alive and may be a signal that they will be a team to be reckoned with in the playoffs. Stansbury

The Stallions will likely win Region 11 and will reach the playoffs for the 2nd time in just 4 years of existence. The question about them heading into the post season will be can they compete with teams in Region 9. Last year three of the four teams in the 3A semifinals came from Region 9 and it was Desert Hills ended the Stallions season on their home field in last year's quarterfinals. It wasn't pretty but the Stallions made a statement Friday that they can compete with one of the best teams in Region 9 and in the process earned a little payback.
