PROVO — Following two tough losses to Utah and Boise State BYU took on Hawai'i at home and not only got a much needed win, but they did it in a big way.
After a lot of debate over the week about who should start at QB, Bronco Mendenhall went with the freshman Taysom Hill.
BYU came out firing on all cylinders and both Hill and fellow freshman Jamaal Williams had statement games.
"Looks like not only does BYU have its most talented QB playing, it also has its most talented RB playing," tweeted @geoffBYU. "Hill and Williams look great."
Taysom Hill looks like the Kanye West to Riley Nelson's Taylor Swift tonight," tweeted @minutemandan.
At half time BYU was up on the Warriors 20-0 and Hill had over 100-yards rushing and Williams was just three-yards from the century mark. But with about four minutes left in the first half ESPN cut to the Cincinnati Reds and Pittsburgh Pirates game to watch Homer Bailey complete a no-hitter.
Even though history was being made, some thought it was telling about how important BYU is to ESPN.
"After that no hitter interrupted the game it's clear BYU is the 5th priority to ESPN," tweeted @KevinGrahamKFAN.
Others, however, thought anything was better than watching the Cougars pound the Warriors.
"Hawaii trails BYU 20-0 at intermission the bright side though is you saw a no-hitter during the second quarter," tweeted @WebsteronTV.
The Cougars came back out at half and Hill, Williams and the rest of the offense kept rolling.
"Obviously Hill looks great (with his feet especially) but I'm even more stoked to see Jamaal Williams show his stuff. Kid is money," tweeted @geoffjBYU.
Both Hill and Williams had more than 100-yards on the ground and the starters on offense were pulled in the third.
While the offense rolled to 47 points, the defense was even more impressive by shutting out an offense for the second week in a row.
No offensive touchdowns in 2 games" tweeted former BYU standout Jan Jorgensen @TheSaintMMA. "This BYU defense is legit!"
The Cougars looked sharp all around and fans are getting excited about this new offense with Hill as they ran to a 47-0 victory. But there's still a sobering reality out there, Hawai'i is not a very good football team.
